Transition support

If you have any questions about transition or feel that your child may need additional support with this, please contact our Senior Wellbeing Manager via the school office on 01253 878445.

Over the Summer Term there will be a number of events and opportunities available to all pupils who require support in taking the next step in their academic journey, whether that be joining Reception; moving up to juniors or starting secondary school. Whole class visits have been arranged so that children can visit their new schools; classrooms and meet their teachers in preparation for September. Additional visits and activities will also be arranged for those children who are identified as potentially requiring extra support with their transition. If you feel your child would benefit from additional support to prepare them for this change then please contact Ms Hampson via the school office on 01253 878445 to discuss your concerns further.

Reception class

Inductions will take place throughout summer term. Parents will be invited to attend school with their children and will have the opportunity to join in with some class activities. All new parents will receive their invites with their allocated times. If you do not receive yours or cannot attend on your allocated time please contact the school office.

In addition to these induction days the teaching staff from reception class will also be visiting the local nurseries to meet the children throughout the summer term. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child starting school in September please do not hesitate to contact the school office.

Year 2

The transition to Juniors can be a little daunting for some pupils and it can take a little longer for them to adjust to the new routine of their school day. In order to make this transition as smooth as possible all pupils will get the opportunity to spend time with their new class teacher and those who may find the change particularly difficult will be identified early and given additional support prior to September.

Year 6 Transition

Over the course of the year we are busy liaising with the local high schools to ensure a number of transition events are in place which suit the needs of every pupil.

Transition opportunities will be communicated over the summer term. These may be whole class opportunities or individual plans to meet the specific needs of certain pupils.

Cardinal Allen pupils

TBC - Transition day for all year 6 pupils usually takes place in early July - All pupils should go straight to Cardinal Allen and arrive by 08:40. Pupils will spend the full day at Cardinal Allen and experience a typical school day

In addition to this Ms Hampson arranges a number of additional transition opportunities for any pupils who may require extra support in preparation for their move to Cardinal Allen in September.

We also invite the head of year 7 and a member of the pastoral team into school so that the children have a familiar point of contact within the school prior to September.

You will be notified in advance if your child is chosen to take part in any of these activities. If you feel your child requires any additional visits then please let us know and we can try and arrange this with Cardinal Allen

Summer school

The local high schools usually arrange a summer school for a few days over the summer holidays. This provides all year 6 children with the opportunity to meet new teachers, become more familiar with their new school, and make new friends prior to the start of term.

Details of the summer schools will be sent out to parents during summer term.
