Working Together for the Good of Each Other

Best Practice with Teaching Assistants Award

The Best Practice with Teaching Assistants Award (BPTAA) is a National Award that St Mary’s Primary School are now working towards achieving.

This provides a straightforward, practical resource to support whole school improvement through leading the management and support of teaching assistants.

The core purposes that underpin the Best Practice with Teaching Assistants Award are:

  • To recognise and celebrate the invaluable role of teaching assistants in supporting the teaching and learning and pastoral care of pupils.

  • To evaluate, monitor and support the leadership, management and work of teaching assistants in order to maximise pupil attainment, achievement and well-being of pupil.

Recent research suggest that the potential of teaching assistants to improve achievement and attainment of pupils is only fully unlocked through strategic management of their work.

By completing this award we plan to celebrate the excellent work and positive contribution our Teaching Assistant team make. Also, we intend to use it as an opportunity to explore ways to further develop our support and provision to ensure that all members of our school community are progressing and achieving their potential – both pupils and staff!
