Trauma Informed Practice
St Mary's Catholic Primary School are not only the first school in Fleetwood, but also the first primary school in Lancashire Education Authority, to be awarded the 'Working with Trauma' quality mark. This is an achievement we are immensely proud of and highlights our dedication and commitment to implementing Trauma Informed Practices across school. The individual needs and well being of our children and families are prioritised, with the five core values of trauma informed practice - Safety; Trust; Choice; Collaboration and Empowerment - being fully embedded within our practices, culture and environment.
Trauma Informed Training
All our staff have taken part in training to better understand how trauma can impact behaviour. This supports us in embedding trauma informed principles into our daily practice to better support the children in our care and effect positive change. Whilst we have access to this training and resources within school, it is also helpful for parents, guardians and the children's wider family support network to understand the principles too. We have therefore attached some useful guides which explain the impact of trauma on brain development and behaviour - as well as how we can better support those who have experienced these traumas.
