A wonderful celebration of sport

Today was an extra special day for St. Mary’s. This year we have introduced a ‘Sports Personality of the Year’ award for each class. The children were chosen for their contribution to sport and the sporting qualities that they have demonstrated.  To commemorate this, we hosted a special assembly in which we celebrated all the fantastic sporting achievements that have taken place this school year. Mr Pilley, Chairman of Fleetwood Town Football Club, came along to share our celebration and present the children with their awards. It was a lovely ceremony and a super way to acknowledge the plentiful and varied sporting achievements by our children.

Gifted and Talented Day

Report Written by Tia and Dzhuliya who attended the event.

Firstly, we were separated into 4 groups after we had received our t-shirts from Coach Chris and Ash. After that, we all went outside to start our adventurous day and were then taken to meet our first instructor. The activities included races between the teams and ultimate frisbee. There were lots of other activities throughout the day and we got to take part in all of them. At dinner time, we were able to meet back up with our friends and have a chat about the day. We had a really good day at the Gifted and Talented Event and it was really good to push ourselves.

Pupils from years 5 and 6 have been learning some basic first aid skills from Mrs. Mellow who runs Event Management and Training.  They have so far learnt how to put somebody into the recovery position and some CPR.  All very useful information for our children to learn and put into practice.

On Tuesday 25th September the boys from St. Mary's defeated Thornton Primary 9:0 in the second game of the season. It was another fantastic display of skill and teamwork. Excellent win!

St Mary's school football team played Fleetwood Charity today in the first game of the new season and what a game it was!

The "new" team displayed outstanding skill, determination and passion and for the first game demonstrated that this is a team to watch out for this year. Unfortunately, the team lost 2:1 however, if they had of converted the many shots they had on goal, they would have easily won today. The wind played a major factor on the ability to convert goals and I am sure we are going to see many goals as the year progresses. What a fantastic start to the year.  Well done Lads and thank you Kevin!

St Mary's Football Team

Match Report 24.11.16

It was a cold night at Poolfoot with many of the team playing their 1st ever competitive game. Only the captain Harry and vice captain Jake who had played in a league game before.
As the game kicked off St. Mary's set up just like they had practiced. Sacred Heart did all the attacking, St. Mary's with some good saves by keeper Robbie, great blocks by the back 3 and the midfield kept them out. Though with a rare counter attack with some good work in the midfield Harry slotted home in the bottom corner to put St. Marys 1-0 ahead. It was a great moment for the team. However Sacred Heart shot straight from the centre spot with an unstoppable shot to make it 1-1. St. Mary's held on to 1-1 at half time.
2nd half began and Sacred Heart kept attacking as St. Marys got tired. St. Mary's were determined not to let tiredness get in their way with blocks and great tackles. Although Sacred Heart scored another few goals St. Mary's would not give up. A few attacks by St. Mary's in the 2nd half with Jake making good runs and Ethan trying to help out the attack resulted in making their keeper make a few saves. Harry had a shot late on from 25 yards out which nearly caught the keeper out. The game ended 4-1 to Sacred Heart.
It was a spirited display from the boys and we are all proud of them not letting their heads go down. Well done St. Mary's.

Aqua-Splash

Eleven of our year 3 children took part in the Aqua-Splash event at Fleetwood YMCA this week. The children thoroughly enjoyed the event and their behaviour and sportsmanship were impeccable. We came third overall which is amazing. Well done children, you did St. Mary's proud!
