Science Day in Zion Class
Science Day 2026 - Curiosity...What's your question?
For Science Day, our theme was "Curiosity – What's Your Question?" We began by thinking about things we were curious about and writing down questions we wanted to investigate. We then took part in a range of exciting hands-on activities to help us discover the answers.
One activity explored the question, "Does toast always land butter side up?" We carried out experiments and discussed why objects fall and land in different ways. We also investigated "How do birds build their nests?" After learning about the materials and techniques birds use, we worked in teams to create our own nests using spaghetti and wool. This challenge helped us understand how birds carefully design nests to be strong and secure. Another question we explored was "How do boats float?" We learned about buoyancy and tested different designs to see which would stay afloat and carry the most weight. Finally, we looked at "Which planes fly the best?" We designed and folded paper planes, then tested them to find out which shapes and designs travelled the furthest and flew most successfully.
Science Day was a fun and engaging experience that encouraged us to ask questions, investigate ideas, and learn through practical experiments. It showed us that curiosity is an important part of science and discovery.
Nazareth class embraced this year's Science Day theme of Curiosity by asking questions, making predictions, and exploring how the world works. Through a range of hands-on investigations, we discovered fascinating facts about dinosaurs and had a chance at being an archaeologist, explored how boats float, tested how far paper aeroplanes can travel, and investigated why toast often seems to land butter-side down! We also examined whether fruit tastes the same regardless of its shape and had great fun learning about the science behind making slime.
Throughout the day, the children enjoyed moving around the different classrooms to experience all the wonderful activities, Nazareth Class demonstrated enthusiasm, creativity, and critical thinking as they explored, experimented, and shared their discoveries. It was wonderful to see curiosity spark so many questions and inspire a love of learning in our young scientists.
Science Day in Bethlehem Class
The children in Bethlehem Class thoroughly enjoyed taking part in a variety of engaging activities. As part of our topic, How Much Will I Change in a Year?, the children created time capsules that they will open next year to discover how much they have grown and changed.
For our learning question, How Can You Tell How Old a Shark Is?, the children enjoyed measuring each other and discussing their ages in months. This helped them explore growth and understand how living things change over time.
