Working Together for the Good of Each Other

Zion Class

Welcome to Zion Class

Miss Davids & Mrs Griffin

"Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever" Psalm 125:1

Big Lent Walk

To end of Spring Term and time in Lent, the whole school took part in the Big Lent Walk in support of CAFOD (Catholic Agency for Overseas Development). As a school community, the children walked 4km together, showing their commitment to helping those in need around the world.

We are incredibly grateful for any sponsorship you were able to give. All money raised will go directly to CAFOD to support vital projects providing food, clean water and support to vulnerable communities.  Once all donations have been collected and counted, we will share the final total with you.  Thank you to our families for their continued support and for helping our children to put their faith into action.

Making our own parks

In Design and Technology, we used our creativity and practical skills to plan, design, and build our own model parks using a range of junk modelling materials. We carefully thought about our ideas, drew designs, and selected suitable materials to bring our plans to life. Throughout the project, we worked collaboratively in teams, sharing ideas, solving problems, and supporting each other to achieve the best results. This experience helped us develop our teamwork, communication, and making skills, as well as encouraging us to think imaginatively and sustainably by reusing materials.

Premier League Reading Stars

Fleetwood Town have successfully delivered an engaging Premier League Reading Stars programme, inspiring young people to discover the joy of reading through football-themed activities. The programme introduced a wide range of books, from exciting sports stories and biographies to comics, fact books, and fiction, helping pupils see that reading can match their interests. It also encouraged children to explore different genres and learn how to choose books that suited their preferences—whether by looking at the cover, reading the blurb, or trying recommendations from friends and teachers—building confidence and a lasting love of reading.

Emmanuel Church - Holy Week

We visited Emmanuel Church, where we took part in an engaging and immersive workshop all about Holy Week. During our visit, we explored the events leading up to Easter through a variety of activities, including making our own palm leaves, singing songs, and listening to scripture readings from the Bible. It was a meaningful experience that helped bring the story of Holy Week to life and gave us the opportunity to reflect, learn, and take part in a special shared experience together.

Come Dine with Me - DT Cooking

In Design and Technology today, we had an exciting and hands-on cooking session where we planned and prepared a delicious three-course meal. We began by learning about the importance of food preparation hygiene, ensuring we understood how to work safely and cleanly in the kitchen. As a team, we then created a tasty potato and leek soup for our starter, followed by a flavourful vegetable curry as the main course. To finish, we made colourful fruit kebabs drizzled with chocolate for dessert. It was a fantastic experience that allowed us to work collaboratively, develop our cooking skills, and most importantly, have lots of fun along the way!

Netball

In PE, we have been developing our netball skills through a range of engaging activities. We practiced key passing techniques, including the chest pass, shoulder pass, and bounce pass, focusing on accuracy and control. We also worked on tactics such as dodging our partners to create space and improve movement on the court. To bring everything together, we applied these skills in a game situation, which helped us build teamwork, communication, and confidence while playing.

Rowing Event

This morning, we held an exciting rowing event where everyone competed against each other using rowing machines. It was a great display of effort, determination, and friendly competition, with everyone pushing themselves to achieve their best times. The atmosphere was energetic and supportive throughout, making it an enjoyable experience for everyone involved. A special congratulations goes to Owen, who delivered an outstanding performance to take first place—well done!

Ministers of the Word

The Ministers of the Word proudly received their certificates after weeks of dedication and effort. Throughout this time, they have worked hard to grow closer to God, deepening their faith and understanding of scripture. They have also committed themselves to learning how to read clearly and confidently in church, recognising the importance of sharing God’s word with others. Their perseverance, reverence, and willingness to serve have been truly inspiring, and this achievement marks an important step in their spiritual journey and role within the church community.

We're Going on a Prayer Hunt

During Lent, we took part in a special prayer hunt around the Mount, which was led by the Mini Vinnies. As we travelled to different points around the Mount, we stopped to read passages from the Gospel and reflect on their meaning. At each station, we completed activities linked to the reading, helping us to think more deeply about our faith and the importance of prayer during Lent. It was a thoughtful and engaging way to journey together and grow spiritually.

Our Poems about Heaven

In our RE lesson, we learned about the idea of heaven and explored what it means in Christianity. We investigated different views by looking at what various people and the Gospels say about heaven, helping us understand that there are many interpretations. After our research, we used our ideas and imagination to create our own beautiful poems about heaven, expressing what we think it might be like.

Stations of the Cross

The Stations of the Cross was a deeply meaningful experience for our whole school. Each class created their own station, putting thought and care into how they represented each moment of Jesus’ journey. When we gathered together in the hall, everything came together beautifully. The atmosphere was calm and peaceful, allowing everyone to reflect quietly and respectfully. It was a special time of prayer and reflection, where we could truly appreciate the effort that everyone had put in and think deeply about the meaning behind each station.

Pilgrims

Mrs Armstrong spoke about her pilgrimage to Spain, explaining how pilgrimages help people grow closer to God through prayer, reflection and faith. Her experience helped the children to think about our own upcoming pilgrimage and what it means to be pilgrims together.  Mrs Jones, our previous Chair of Governors, shared how she volunteers her time supporting others. She spoke about her work with The Pantry food bank and a charity supporting refugee families. Her work links closely with our school’s journey to becoming a School of Sanctuary, where everyone is welcomed and supported.  Both visitors helped us to see that being Pilgrims of Hope means not only travelling in faith, but also helping others and bringing hope to our community.

World Book Day 2026

For World Book Day this year, our theme was Little People, Big Dreams. We talked about inspirational people and shared who inspires us and why. We also took part in a parade where we showed our costumes to our friends and family. It was lots of fun seeing everyone dressed as different characters. We also spent time reading with the Reception children, which was really special and helped us share our love of books.

Premier League Reading Stars

In our session today, we talked about how we choose our reading books.  We talked about the blurb and whether we would be interested in the book after reading the first few pages.  We also spoke about how if we find more than five words tricky on the first page then the book might be too difficult for us.

Worship

Thank you to Millie and Laila for delivering a beautiful worship session in class today around the theme of sanctuary and hope.

Lenten Workshop

During Lent, our school community gathered for a special Lenten Workshop focused on our theme, School of Sanctuary. Lent is a sacred season in the Christian calendar, a time of reflection, prayer, and renewal as we prepare our hearts for Easter. Guided by the values of welcome, compassion, and understanding that define a School of Sanctuary, pupils explored what it means to offer kindness, safety, and hope to others. Through a range of creative craft activities, children designed prayer crosses and cards.  The workshop provided a meaningful opportunity for everyone to reflect on how we can be a place of refuge and love within our school and wider community.

Our Lent Box Journey

Our Lent Box journey has been a special way for us to reflect during the season of Lent. Each night, the Lent Box goes home with a different person, giving us the opportunity to gather with our families, pray together, and think about the meaning of this important time leading up to Easter. It helps us to slow down, make small sacrifices, and remember to show kindness and generosity to others. Sharing the Lent Box reminds us that we are all on this journey together as we prepare our hearts for Easter.

The Way of the Cross

The Mini Vinnies recently gathered at our parish church to take part in the Way of the Cross, and it was a truly reflective and meaningful experience. As we moved through each station, we paused to think deeply about Jesus’ journey, offering our own prayers and intentions along the way. Being together in the quiet of the church helped us feel connected not only to the story of the Cross but also to one another. It was lovely to gather with our wider community, sharing in faith, reflection, and a spirit of compassion. The experience reminded us of the importance of kindness, service, and standing together in support of others.

Managing Exam Stress Workshop

Today, we took part in an exam stress workshop delivered by Shine, where we explored how to manage our feelings and emotions in the lead-up to our SATs. The session helped us understand that it’s normal to feel nervous about tests and gave us practical strategies to stay calm, positive and focused. We talked about different coping techniques, shared our thoughts, and learned how to support one another during busy times. We also played fun, interactive games that made the workshop enjoyable and engaging, helping us build confidence while learning valuable skills for exam season.

Class Mass

Today at class Mass, during the first week of Lent, we felt a sense of calm and reflection as we gathered together as a school community. It seemed like everyone was thinking more deeply about the meaning of the season. Lent is a time to grow closer to God through prayer, small sacrifices, and acts of kindness, and the homily reminded us to focus on improving ourselves little by little each day. Listening to the readings and praying together made the experience feel more meaningful, especially as we begin our journey toward Easter. It was a thoughtful way to start both our day and the Lenten season.

Worship in the Prayer Garden

This afternoon, we gathered together in our Peace and Prayer Garden for a special time of worship and reflection during the season of Lent. We spent time thinking about our Lent Promise pebbles, remembering the commitments we made to grow closer to God and to show kindness, patience and love to others. Each one of us prayerfully placed our pebble into the garden as a sign of our promise and dedication. We then said a heartfelt prayer to Mary, our Mother, asking her to guide us and help us follow her example of faith and trust. Finally, we reflected on how we can carry our Lent promises forward in our daily lives, continuing to make positive choices and live out our faith beyond this special season.

Coastguard Workshop

Today we were pleased to welcome Fleetwood Coastguard to school for an informative and engaging water safety talk. Students learned about the dangers of open water, how to stay safe at the beach and around rivers, and what to do if they ever find themselves in difficulty. The team explained the importance of staying calm, floating to live, and never entering the water to try to rescue someone else. They also reminded us that in an emergency we should call 999 and ask for the Coastguard. It was a valuable session that helped everyone understand how to enjoy the water safely and responsibly.

Ash Wednesday

Today we celebrated Ash Wednesday with a whole school assembly. During the assembly, we learned about the meaning of this special day and why it is important in the Christian calendar. Each of us had the sign of the cross marked on our foreheads with ash. This reminds us to be kind, to say sorry for our mistakes, and to try our best to follow Jesus during Lent.

We are also writing our Lenten promises. These are special promises about how we will help others, show kindness, pray more, or give something up during Lent. When we have finished writing them, we are placing them in the Prayer and Peace Garden as a sign of our commitment and reflection.

Friendship Bench

We were delighted to celebrate the opening of our new Friendship Bench, a wonderful addition to our school community. A huge congratulations goes to our Children’s Leadership Team for coming up with such a thoughtful and meaningful idea to support friendship and inclusion across the school. We would also like to sincerely thank everyone who generously donated through our fundraising efforts — your support made this project possible. A special thank you to Fr Alf for joining us to officially open the bench and for giving it a beautiful blessing. We are very much looking forward to seeing our wonderful Friendship Bench being used after half term.

School of Sanctuary Mass

This week our school community gathered for a very special Mass to celebrate our commitment as a School of Sanctuary. We were honoured to welcome representatives from local Christian churches, neighbouring schools and parishioners as we came together in faith, unity and shared purpose.

The celebration was a powerful reminder of our call to love our neighbour and to stand in solidarity with refugees and families who have come to live in our town. Through prayer, scripture and reflection, we reaffirmed our commitment to ensuring that our school is a place of welcome, safety and belonging for all.

As part of our celebration, our staff and families generously contributed to a food bank collection in support of those in need within our local community. The donations were presented at the back of Church for all to see during Mass before being delivered to the food bank afterwards. We are incredibly proud of the compassion and generosity shown by our school community, living out the Gospel values in such a practical and meaningful way.

Together, we continue to build a community rooted in dignity, compassion and hope, where everyone is welcomed and valued.

The Transfiguration Artwork

In this project, we explored how different people interpret artists’ meanings in paintings of the Transfiguration, before creating our own personal interpretation of the scene. Together, we discussed how the disciples might be feeling in the artwork, considered what Moses is shown holding, and examined what the disciples are doing in response to what they are witnessing. Through discussion and creative work, we developed a deeper understanding of the story and how it can be expressed through art.

Congratulations Homework Superstars!

Congratulations and thank you to our homework stars for the first half of the year - they consistently complete their homework, read extra and just go that extra mile!  Thank you for presenting your work beautifully and taking pride in all that you do.  We appreciate your efforts!

Pancake Treats!

We enjoyed celebrating Shrove Tuesday early today by eating pancakes!

Walk to School Winners!

Congratulations to our 'Walk to School' winners for this half term!

School Council Meeting

Our school council had a very exciting meeting this afternoon...we discussed the opening of our new friendship bench and we also chose items for our new 'Tuck Shop' which will be open in Spring II.  Watch this space!

Fleetwood Town Player Visit

We really enjoyed our last session of Primary Maths Stars today - it was concluded with a visit from Fleetwood Town players.  Thank you so much for your time!

Joy of Moving

Today’s Joy of Moving session was a great mix of learning and fun. We started by talking about what a healthy diet looks like and how good food choices help our bodies stay strong and energised. After that, we headed outside to enjoy some fun exercise activities, getting everyone moving, laughing, and working together while enjoying the fresh air.

Worship in Reception

Thank you to members of Zion class for presenting a calm, loving and respectful atmosphere during their deliverance of worship in Reception; the children were engaged and loved their worship.

Celebrating Love in Worship

Today’s worship focused on the theme of love—God’s love for us and how we can share that love with others in our everyday lives. We spent time reflecting on all the wonderful things we appreciate about each other and how kindness, care, and encouragement help our community grow stronger. As part of the activity, we wrote something we love about ourselves on a red heart, reminding us that self-love is important too. To finish our worship on a joyful note, we shared some chocolate together, celebrating love, gratitude, and togetherness.

Flashbacks

As part of our learning, we’ve been creating flashbacks for Felix from the novel Once, exploring the happier moments from his childhood. These flashbacks focus on warm, comforting memories such as playing at the park with friends, writing stories in his journal, and the familiar smell of Mum’s baking filling the house. We’ve also written about peaceful bedtime stories, moments that show love, safety, and joy. This work helps us better understand Felix as a character and highlights the importance of hope and positive memories, even during difficult times.

Storytelling Week

As part of Storytelling Week, our Year 6 children shared their favourite childhood stories with the Reception classes, creating some truly special moments. The older pupils loved revisiting the books they once enjoyed, while the Reception children listened with wide eyes and big smiles. It was wonderful to see such kindness, confidence, and enthusiasm as stories were brought to life. Everyone had a lot of fun, and the experience reminded us just how powerful and joyful sharing stories can be.

Planning our Flashback

In English, we are writing a flashback for Felix, the main character in the book Once. We have read some examples and gathered ideas to help us plan our own flashback. Using our imagination and creativity, we are thinking about his life before the orphanage and what memories he might have. This helps us explore his feelings and experiences, and lets us bring the story to life in our own words.

Superstar Readers

We have now finished our mini reading comprehension book from CGP SATs Buster. We have really enjoyed working with the short texts, reading them carefully, and discussing them as a class. Analysing the stories and information together has helped us to understand the texts better and has improved our confidence in answering different types of questions.

Delivering Worship Around School

Thank you to our children for delivering worship around school.  Today, the children went into year 3/4 and the worship theme was friendship. They explored how friendship is important in Christianity, linking it to Jesus’ teaching to love one another. The children reflected on what makes a good friend and how they can show kindness and care to others in their daily lives.

Primary Maths Stars

In our workshop today, we spoke about how to plan and lead training session event.  We spoke about costings and how this would work and how we could plan our own community events.

Child Led Worship

Thank you to our wonderful Zion class children for leading a worship on difference.  We spoke about how God made everyone different; we all have different talents and gifts to offer the world.

Swimming Gala

Several of our students attended the swimming gala today at the YMCA, and they were absolutely fantastic! They worked exceptionally hard and showed great determination during the races. Not only did they give their best effort, but they also had a lot of fun cheering each other on. Their focus, teamwork, and leadership made both themselves and the school very proud. It was a wonderful day full of achievement, smiles, and memories to remember.

The Feast of St Thomas Aquinas

St. Thomas Aquinas was a very clever and kind man who lived about 800 years ago in Italy and became a priest and teacher. He loved learning and asking big questions about God, faith, and how to live a good life, and he wrote many books to help people understand God better. St. Thomas believed that God made the world and loves everyone, and that people can learn about God by using both faith (believing) and reason (thinking). He taught that being wise means choosing what is good and right, loving God, and caring for others, especially those in need. Because of his wisdom and gentle nature, he is remembered as one of the Church’s greatest teachers and a saint who showed that using our minds well is one way to serve God and others.  Thank you to the whole school for such a beautiful Mass today.

Maths Primary League Stars

We took part in a Primary Stars Premier League maths workshop where we learned about the important job of groundspeople at a football club. They look after the pitch and make sure it is safe and ready for matches. We discovered how maths is used in their work, especially when measuring area and perimeter to mark out the pitch and plan spaces. It was a fun way to see how maths is used in real life and in football.

Fire Safety

We had a special visit from the Fire Service who came to talk to us about staying safe. They taught us important fire safety tips for at home, such as not playing with matches and knowing what to do if there is a fire. They also spoke to us about road safety and how to stay safe when we are walking, like looking out for cars, crossing carefully, and using safe places to cross. They reminded us how important it is to always wear a seatbelt in a car to keep ourselves safe. It was a very helpful and interesting visit.

Becoming Newsreaders

Today, we became newsreaders reporting on Felix and Zelda’s brave journey to find their parents. Our reporter shared how the two were last seen moving carefully through the streets, holding onto hope and each other despite the danger around them. An eyewitness said they looked scared but determined, showing incredible courage for such a difficult mission. As newsreaders, we told their story to remind everyone that even in hard times, hope and bravery can guide people forward.

Market Research

Members of the school council have taken part in some market research today - we have designed a new star of the week certificate and asked the whole school which one they preferred!  Watch out for Friday's assembly to see which one won!

Our RE work

In our RE lessons we have explored the idea of an inner blessed life by learning that true happiness comes from our relationship with God and how we treat others, not just from material things. The prayer Our Father teaches us to trust God, ask for forgiveness, and try to live in peace and kindness. Jesus gives his followers an important role in the Beatitudes by showing them how to live with humility, mercy, and love, and how to be a positive example to the world. This links to the Ten Commandments because both guide us to live in a way that respects God and other people, helping us to build a faithful and loving life.

'Great' Grammar

We are learning lots in our grammar sessions and we are enjoying making grammar revision cards to help us.

Worship by Gabby and Penelope

Thank you to our wonderful Zion children for delivering a beautiful worship on the theme of Love.  It was thoughtful and peaceful and enjoyed by all.

Indoor Athletics Competition

The children had a fantastic time attending indoor athletics, where a wide range of activities took place throughout the session. They showed great enthusiasm and worked together brilliantly, demonstrating strong teamwork and encouragement for one another. Everyone stayed engaged and active, making the experience both enjoyable and rewarding for all involved.

Worship in Reception

Thank you to Gabby and Penelope for delivering a beautiful worship session in reception class.  It was peaceful and thought provoking.  Well done, we are proud of you.

WOW Walk to School Designs

We designed our own walk to school badges using the five senses to show what we notice on our journey each day. We thought about what we see, hear, smell, touch, and even taste, and turned those ideas into creative pictures and symbols. Each badge is unique and shows how everyone experiences the same walk in different ways. It helped us be more aware of our surroundings and made our walk to school more fun and meaningful.

Reading Cafe

Today, the children visited the Reception class for their Reading Café. They shared stories and read together with the Reception children, and they absolutely loved the experience. It was a lovely opportunity to build confidence, friendships, and a love for reading.

Maths Career Mode Workshop

In our Premier League Maths workshop today, we focused on planning our own training sessions and exploring how maths is used in real-life sporting situations. We created detailed timetables to organise activities, manage time effectively, and ensure each part of the session ran smoothly. By working out durations, sequencing tasks, and thinking carefully about structure, we were able to see how important maths is in successful training planning. The activity helped us develop our organisational skills while showing how maths can be practical, engaging, and directly linked to sport.

School of Sanctuary Reading

We have a wonderful selection of books linked to our School of Sanctuary that we enjoy reading in the reading den. These books help us learn about kindness, respect, and understanding others while also being fun and interesting to read. The reading den is a calm and welcoming space where we can relax and explore new stories together.

Class Worship

Gabby and Penelope planned and delivered a lovely worship session for our class, creating a calm and meaningful experience for everyone. The session included gospel readings, thoughtful prayers, beautiful music, and quiet reflection time, allowing us all to pause and connect spiritually. Their preparation and teamwork made the worship time special and uplifting for the whole class.

Maths Career Mode Workshop

During this exciting workshop, Zion class stepped into the role of a football club’s Business Manager. They explored what the job involves and used their maths skills to make important financial decisions that would shape the future of their club. The session encouraged children to think carefully, work as a team, and demonstrate key Premier League values such as responsibility, fairness, and ambition while solving real-life problems.

LEGO Builders Workshop

In our LEGO Builders workshop, we linked our science topic on electricity by building LEGO houses and adding lights that actually lit up using simple circuits. We explored how electricity flows and what is needed to make a complete circuit. Afterward, we combined all our houses to create a village and added a working train line, making our model come to life. This helped us understand electricity in a fun, hands-on way while working together as a team.  What a fabulous morning we've had!

Science - Learning how to make a series circuit

In science lessons, we have been learning about electricity. The children built simple electrical circuits using cells, bulbs and wires, and learned how to draw these circuits accurately using the correct scientific symbols. They also carried out investigations to test how to make bulbs brighter, exploring what happens when different numbers of cells are used and what changes occur when two bulbs are added to a circuit with just one cell. This hands-on learning helped pupils develop their understanding of how circuits work and build their practical science skills.

PSHE - Staying Safe

In PSHE, the children have been learning how to keep themselves healthy and safe as they grow. The children explored ways to make responsible choices, manage risks, and stay safe in everyday situations, including when travelling to and from school and when using the internet. They discussed different influences and pressures they may face and practised how to resist unhelpful pressure while building confidence in their own abilities and respecting differences. Pupils also learned what to do if a situation or person makes them feel uncomfortable, how anti-social behaviour can affect wellbeing, and why healthy habits and avoiding harmful substances are important for both physical and emotional health.

Ann Frank's Diary

We have been learning about Anne Frank and the Holocaust in a sensitive, age-appropriate way. We explored who Anne Frank was, why she had to hide during World War Two, and how her diary helps us understand the experiences and feelings of Jewish children at that time. We discussed themes such as fairness, kindness, courage, and standing up against discrimination. As part of this learning, the children created information posters to share key facts about Anne Frank’s life and what the Holocaust was, while reflecting on the importance of tolerance and respect for others today.

What was the impact of WWII on the people of Britain?

In our WWII topic, we have learned about important events and experiences from the war. We explored the Battle of Britain and discovered how brave RAF pilots helped defend the country, as well as what life was like for them and for people living through the Blitz. We also learned about the vital role women played during the war, how children were evacuated to keep them safe, and how families coped with rationing. This has helped us understand what everyday life was like during World War II and how people showed courage and resilience.

The Epiphany

We marked the Feast of the Epiphany with a special assembly, coming together as a school community to reflect on the visit of the Magi and the message of light, guidance and hope it brings. The assembly also gave us a meaningful opportunity to celebrate and conclude the Year of Hope, reminding us of the values we have shared and lived throughout the year. It was a reflective and uplifting moment, encouraging us to carry this sense of hope forward into the year ahead.

This morning, we all gathered together for a beautiful Christmas breakfast!  We ate lots of lovely food before exchanging our Secret Santa gifts!  It was lovely to see how much effort the children put into their gifts and the happy faces receiving them! What a wonderful, festive morning we've had!

Posada Box Journey

During Advent, each class takes part in the Posada tradition. A Posada box contains figures of Mary and Joseph, reminding us of their journey as they searched for shelter before the birth of Jesus.

Each night, the Posada box visits a different home within the class community. Families are invited to welcome Mary and Joseph, spend time in prayer or reflection, and think about how they can show kindness, generosity and care for others during this special season.

This tradition reflects key principles of Catholic Social Teaching, particularly the dignity of every human person and solidarity. By welcoming Mary and Joseph, children are encouraged to think about those in our world who may feel excluded, vulnerable or without a home, and to consider how they can respond with compassion and hospitality.

Through the Posada, we are reminded of the importance of opening our hearts to others and making room for Jesus by living out our faith through loving action.

Mini Cops

Our Mini Cops programme has now come to an end, and we’ve had an amazing time learning all about how the police system works. Throughout the sessions, we took part in fingerprinting, forensics and fitness activities, while also learning important skills such as teamwork and resilience. For our final session, we enjoyed a special presentation where we met other officers and learned more about their different roles within the police. To top it all off, we even got the chance to look inside a real police car, making it a memorable and exciting end to a fantastic programme.

Writing in English - A WWII Christmas Truce

In English, our writing has been inspired by the WWII Sainsbury’s advert The True Meaning of Christmas, which links closely with our class novel Once and our history topic. We explored the idea that Christmas is a time for sharing, kindness and humanity, even during difficult times. Using the advert as a stimulus, we wrote first-person diary entries from the perspectives of the soldiers Jim and Otto, imagining their thoughts and feelings during the Christmas truce. This helped us develop empathy, deepen our historical understanding and improve our descriptive and reflective writing skills.

Our 2025 Carol Service

Our KS2 carol service this year at St Mary’s Church was a wonderful celebration with the theme of Hope and Sanctuary, linking beautifully to our journey of becoming a School of Sanctuary. The children performed beautifully, filling the church with music, reflection and warmth as they shared carols and readings that reminded us of kindness, welcome and care for others. The service was a joyful and meaningful way to start the week, spreading Christmas cheer while celebrating the values of hope, compassion and belonging at the heart of our school community.

Dance - British Values

This half term in PE, we have been learning dance with a focus on British values. We worked in partners to create a routine that shows values such as teamwork, respect, individual liberty and democracy, as we shared ideas and made decisions together. Our dances were set to Land of Hope and Glory and the James Bond theme tune, which helped us link our movements to British culture. Through these lessons, we improved our cooperation, creativity and confidence while performing as a pair.

Heart & Lung Dissecting

In our science lesson today, we had the opportunity to work with two teachers from Cardinal Allen.  We looked at the heart and the lungs and had the opportunity to dissect parts of them so we could see the different parts.

The Components of the Blood

In science, we have been learning about the blood!  During our lesson today, we talked about the different components and then made them out of sweet treats to help us remember!  We now know all about plasma, platelets, red blood cells and white blood cells!

KS1 Nativity

Thank you so much to KS1 for allowing us to come and be entertained at your dress rehearsal for Whoops a Daisy Angel - we thoroughly enjoyed it!

Pantomime

We had a fabulous time watching Cinderella at the Pleasure Beach.  We laughed and clapped along and even got to meet some of the cast at the end!  What a wonderful way to start the Christmas celebrations!

Advent Liturgy Workshop

Thank you to our friends and family for joining us today for our lovely Advent Liturgy and card making workshop.

Christmas Jumper & Christmas Dinner Day

We've really enjoyed our Christmas jumper and Christmas dinner day today!  We ate lovely food, sang songs and enjoyed each others company!  We are well and truly in the Christmas spirit!

Library Bus

Today, we visited the library bus to choose some new texts for our reading den.

RE - Prophecy & Promise

In our RE lesson, we learned about King David and how he was chosen by God through prophecy and promise. We explored how David, once a humble shepherd boy, grew into a great leader for his people, showing courage, faith, and trust in God. We also linked this to the idea of the “Good Shepherd,” understanding how David’s early life caring for his sheep reflects the way God cares for us—guiding, protecting, and never abandoning His people.

CSI Week for Mini Cops

During Mini Cops CSI Week, the children explored the fascinating world of forensic science. They learned all about different types of evidence—including fingerprinting, DNA, and how to carefully preserve a crime scene. After their lessons, they had the exciting opportunity to investigate a mock crime scene, searching for clues and putting their new skills into action. Each child was then fingerprinted and able to compare their prints with one another, discovering just how unique every fingerprint truly is.

A Visit from our MP

Lorraine Beavers, local MP for Blackpool North and Fleetwood, visited St. Mary’s on Friday, 28th November and spoke with the Children’s Leadership Team.

The children suggested several ways to improve Fleetwood, such as creating places where families and children can spend time together, providing shelters for those in need, installing water fountains throughout the town, and lowering tram fares.

The Start of Advent

Today we had a lovely Advent assembly led by our Mini Vinnies to mark the beginning of this special season. They reminded us that Advent is a time of waiting, hope, and preparation as we get ready to celebrate the birth of Jesus. We lit the first candle on our Advent wreath and reflected on how we can spread kindness and joy in the coming weeks. It was a warm and thoughtful start to Advent, and everyone left feeling excited for the journey ahead.

'Once'

In English, we are reading the book 'Once' which links with our WWII topic.  The main character, Felix, escapes from an orphanage and embarks on an adventure to find his parents.  Our first piece of writing is a diary entry, in the perspective of the main character as he sets off on his initial journey.  The children worked hard to put themselves in Felix's shoes.

The Presentation of Mary

We gathered together as a school to celebrate the beautiful feast of the Presentation of Mary. During the Mass, we reflected on Mary’s faith, courage, and trust in God, and thought about how we can follow her example in our own lives. Zion class took part reverently in the readings, prayers, and singing, helping to make the celebration meaningful for our whole school community. It was a special moment of prayer and gratitude as we honoured Mary and asked her to guide us on our journey of faith.

Red Wednesday

Today we celebrated Red Wednesday by wearing something red in school and joining together for a special time of worship. Red Wednesday helps us remember people around the world who are treated unfairly for their beliefs, and it reminds us to stand up for kindness, courage, and peace.

Mini Cops Training

We are pleased to introduce our 'Mini Cop' cadets to you!  These children applied for the role and were shortlisted to join a six week training course with our local police officer.  Each week, they will learn about different roles within the police - what an exciting opportunity!  Watch this space for future updates!

We have marked mental health week by taking part in different activities.  We have played games that teach us further about resilience, we took park in some relaxation activities in the hall and we also spoke about our brains and how we can control our impulses in tricky situations.

Antibullying Week

Today, we marked antibullying week by wearing odd socks.  We also created our own poems, talked about the different types of bullying and then we completed a key words wordsearch.

We Remember Together...

We gathered together in worship and as a whole school to remember the soldiers, past and present, who have given their lives for us.  We will remember them.

Remembrance Sunday

Thank you to our head and deputy for participating in the Remembrance Service on Sunday.  Lest we forget.

Culture Music Festival

We were lucky enough to take part in a wonderful 'Culture Music Festival' today.  An Arabic musician kindly shared his music and culture with us and we learnt an Arabic song.  We listened to instruments and then took part in an assembly where we also got to share another musicians work - 'Stomp.'  What a wonderful afternoon we have had!

Confirmation

Congratulations to Jacob who took part in his Confirmation this week at St Mary's Church.

All Saints Day

Today, we attended the All Saints Mass at St. Mary’s Church, and it was a truly special and meaningful celebration. The church looked beautiful, and everyone joined together in prayer and song to honour all the saints. Some of the children took part by reading during the Mass, and they did so wonderfully — their voices were clear, confident, and full of reverence. It was lovely to see how respectfully and thoughtfully everyone participated, making it a memorable and uplifting occasion for our whole school community.

We learned all about St. Elizabeth of Hungary, a kind and generous woman who devoted her life to helping others. She was a princess who chose to use her wealth and position to care for the poor, the sick, and those in need. St. Elizabeth showed great love and compassion by building hospitals, sharing food with the hungry, and treating everyone with kindness and respect. In our school, we want to live by her example by being caring, generous, and thoughtful in our words and actions. We will try to help others, include everyone, and show love and kindness in everything we do, just as St. Elizabeth did.

Pumpkin Parade

What an amazing response we have had for our 'Pumpkin Parade' based on our favourite book or film characters!  The children (and adults at home!) have worked SO hard creating these masterpieces!  Thank you for your efforts!  We can't wait to complete some creative writing based on our designs! Well done everyone!

Art - Expressing Ideas

In our art work this topic, we have focused on expressing our own ideas.  We started off by discussing whether street art is classed as art or graffiti; we even went to have a look at some street art in our local area and discussed the meaning behind these.  We then focused on creating our own ideas for a better world.  We then moved on to looking at how artists create a one point perspective, scaling up a picture and then we created our own street art.
