Thank you to our Mini Vinnies, Head Boy, and Head Girl who joined Mrs. Kowalska in delivering our school’s Harvest collection.
Your generosity will help support those in our community who rely on the Fleetwood Food Bank. We’re so proud of everyone who contributed! 🌾💛
As Pope Leo XIII reminds us:
“Charity is the noblest of virtues. It binds us together in the love of God and our neighbour, and prompts us to give generously to those in need.”
We welcome Pope Leo as he represents Christ and 1.4 billion people. His first words as Pope were 'Peace Be with You', just like the risen Jesus did as his first words to his flock. Let us keep Pope Leo in our thoughts and prayers as he takes on the honour of being the new head of the Church.
On Wednesday 5th March as we began our Lenten journey, we celebrated Ash Wednesday Mass with St Wulstan's who brought the statue of Our Lady, from the diocese, which is visiting the Catholic primary and secondary schools as part of the Jubilee Year of Hope.
The children processed the statue into school on the Thursday; we had the opportunity to pray with the statue, as well as engage in prayer with different prayer stations. We finalised our time with the statue with our Mini Vinnies leading a farewell liturgy which Fr Stephen and Deacon Bernard joined us for.
Finally, we delivered Our Lady to Sacred Heart, joining their welcome liturgy.
We have launched in school, along with other schools and our Catholic community the focus of 2025 - Pilgrims of Hope set out by Pope Francis for this year, the year of the jubilee as the Holy Door in Rome in open. This only happens every 25 years and the focus in 'Hope'. As Pope Francis says 'Hope never disappoints'. We will be celebrating and reflecting throughout the year, the idea of hope and engaging with the visit of a statue of Our Lady, creating artwork, prayer stations and making our own Pledge of Hope.
As agreed by the governors of St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, parents and staff will be consulted about their views on our school becoming an academy and joining the Blessed Edward Bamber Catholic Multi Academy Trust. You will receive a letter accompanied with FAQs and a consultation response sheet for your views and questions to be shared. The consultation period will end on the 9th February. Thank you
In school, we celebrated the Epiphany with our own liturgy. We discussed having visitors over the holidays, how we prepare and read the story of the Kings arrival to see the baby Jesus. We put up a sign above our hall door for 'Chalking the Door' a Christian Tradition where you write the year and then the letter name of each king, which also translates to 'May God bless this house (school).
We had a successful whole school nativity on Tuesday 12th December in church. It was lovely to bring all the children together as we celebrated the nativity together of 'Children of the World', see church full of parents and raise £250 too.
Cardinal Allen pupils came to share an Advent Liturgy with the KS2 children to celebrate the start of the Advent season. They shared the Gospel, Advent promises and prayers. They joined in with our tradition of decorating the tree with our Advent promises.
Our Year 6 children - headboy, head girl and their deputies joined Miss Davids, Mrs Bottomley and Mrs Kowlaska at Memorial Park to represent our school and place a wreath from us on Remembrance Sunday - we will remember them.
