  • Awareness Day for Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy

Thu 28 Apr 2022 Karen Higham

On Thursday 21st April we held an awareness day for Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy. Many of the children wore something yellow to help raise awareness of HIE - Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy. Hypoxic Ischaemic Encephalopathy (HIE) is where there is a lack of oxygen and blood flow to the brain. It can occur before, during, or shortly after labour. It can happen in older children too. You may also hear the term “asphyxia” or “birth asphyxia”. These mean the same thing. HIE can cause injury to the brain. The severity of this can vary greatly. You may hear HIE and a grade from 1 which is mild to 3 which is severe.

The children participating made a £1 towards the PEEPS Charity who raise awareness, making sure that people affected by HIE can get the support needed.

We raised a grand total of £63 plus gift aid which has been sent directly to the charity.  Thanks so much to all who took part and donated to this worthy cause.

Visit from the Mayor of Wyre

Yesterday we had a visit from Andrea Kay the Mayor of Wyre and her consort Phil.  Andrea spent the afternoon in the classrooms getting to know our children who asked her lots of interesting and probing questions!  Andrea then met with Mrs. Bottomley to suggest ways that the school can raise funds for future projects.  Thanks so much to Andrea and Phil, the children had a wonderful afternoon.
