At St. Mary’s Catholic Primary School, Personal, Social, Health, and Economic (PSHE) education is embedded within our
overarching curriculum that prepares our children for many different aspects of their lives.
Our overall goal is to help our children to become well-rounded individuals with strong character, who will eventually go out into the world of adults and be actively and positively involved in society. In order to do this, we are striving to create a conducive environment around the school and this year we have created our own specific Personal Development Curriculum that is entwined with our academic curriculum.
Our curriculum aims to provide engagement and enrichment and through this, we aim for all children to have equal opportunities to thrive together.
The children in years 4, 5 and 6 were given the opportunity to attend a workshop run by Blackpool Music Services. We welcomed two fabulous musicians into school; Carl Smith, co-founder, writer and performer in the award winning, global theatre show 'STOMP', and Louai Alhenawi; Syrian composer, educator and solo artist. Not only did the children get to work with the artists in an interactive workshop, we also enjoyed a whole school assembly. The children across school reported how much they enjoyed the afternoon, and certainly learned an awful lot from these two talented artists.
That evening, the children who experienced the workshops were invited to the Empress Ballroom at the Winter Gardens to experience live music from a global platform, six musicians in all from around the World, and attend a large-scale performance to share workshop material with parents and carers. Overall Culturefest was enjoyed by over 3000 children from schools in Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde, and children from St. Mary's were proud to have been a part of it.

Academic Year 2022-2023
Music in KS1 with Mrs Halloran
In Year 2 we are spending time talking about what an Ensemble is throughout our topic, 'I want to play in a band'. We've spoke about the different key roles people play within a band and how different instruments and sounds can complement eachother.
In Year 1 in Music this half term, we are looking at pulse, pitch, and different styles of music, for example, Baroque which the children are loving. Next week, we're looking at classical music!
Christmas Carols with the St. Mary's Choir
Our lovely school choir was so lucky to be asked to visit Fleetwood Nursing Home. The children have worked so hard to prepare some Christmas Carols and other Christmas songs to sing to the staff and residents. We even got to have some chocolates with them! What a lovely, festive day!
Nathan Parker in Shelly Woods Class
We were fortunate enough to work with Nathan Parker all day today. He is a spoken poet and worked closely with us to create our own poems. He spoke to us about the features of poetry, confidence, spoken word, rhymes and performance. He also read some of his own work to us! Safe to say, we were inspired! Check him out on Instagram!

Young Voices 2022
On Wednesday 25th May, our school choir headed to Manchester AO Arena for the 25th Anniversary 'Young Voices' celebrations. The children have spent the last few months rehearsing; practicing songs and dance moves and yesterday was the day! The children were an absolute credit to our school and another head teacher even said that our school were 'the best neighbours' to sit next too! Well done children - you are all super stars.
