St Mary's Catholic Primary School

Working Together for the Good of Each Other

Welcoming Mylo - St Mary's school dog

This year we are welcoming Mylo, our school dog, into our St Mary's family. Mylo will be completing lots of training to become our school therapy dog and once qualified will be working to support children's social and emotional wellbeing in school through timetabled interventions. He will also be taking part in extra-curricular activities and events when the opportunity arises.

To fulfill his role, Mylo will be working closely under the standards of "The School Therapy Dog Association". You can visit their website, www.schooltherapydog.com and see for yourself the high standards that Mylo, the children and the staff will have to meet. He will attend lots of training classes, starting in March, and his trainer will also be visiting school to make sure that he is happy and doing a good job.

During lockdown though Mylo will be spending lots of time meeting the staff and exploring the school building whilst there's no children around so that he feels comfortable in the school environment. The staff will also be updating their school policies and risk assessments in preparation for his arrival in school. Mylo is really looking forward to meeting everyone but for now you can follow his journey on his Instagram page, Mylos_Moments.
